Introduction

Portable Spectral Services (PSS) is a leading provider of portable XRF, micro‑XRF, infrared and TXRF instruments, analytical services and training based in West Perth. Established in 2011 to provide an independent voice in the portable XRF market, PSS has grown into a unique provider of spectral technology and training. This page explains how PSS partnered with PrimeSites Digital to build, host and continually enhance the PSS website – a platform that showcases cutting‑edge instruments, supports customer journeys and reflects our commitment to sustainability.

Partnership overview

Our collaboration with PrimeSites began in November 2020 when we recognised the need for a website that could keep pace with our rapidly evolving business.  As the official Bruker distributor for Australia and a provider of hire, sales, analysis and training services, we needed a platform capable of handling extensive product catalogues, complex forms and integrated ecommerce while remaining fast, accessible and easy to manage.  PrimeSites was chosen for their expertise in WordPress development, performance optimisation and long‑term website care.

Project overview

The current website was relaunched on WordPress using the Divi builder.  It combines a modern front‑end with backend features including:

  • A flexible product catalogue with WooCommerce for equipment sales and hire, allowing customers to explore handheld XRF, micro‑XRF, infrared and TXRF instruments.
  • A streamlined hire booking system, including pricing tables and dynamic availability for each instrument.
  • Training and analysis pages that outline our portable XRF user licensing courses and bespoke analytical services .
  • News and resource sections for sharing articles, awards and sustainability initiatives.
  • Integration with our existing CRM for lead capture and newsletter sign‑ups.
  • Portal login to our cloud‑based spectrum analysis platform.

  • Schema and metadata: Added structured data for instruments, articles and services to improve search visibility and AI comprehension (see code below).
  • Accessibility: Ensured contrast ratios and navigation meet WCAG guidelines; integrated alt text for product images.
  • Mobile optimisation: Simplified navigation and reduced layout shifts for small screens; added click‑to‑call and quick enquiry forms.
  • Security and reliability: Implemented SSL, malware scanning, reCAPTCHA v3 on forms and automated backups.

Usability, mobile and performance improvements

The relaunched site addressed earlier pain points by:
  • Re‑organising content around key user journeys: browsing products, hiring instruments, arranging analysis and booking training.
  • Reducing load times via lazy loading, minification and Cloudflare caching. Product pages now achieve rapid First Contentful Paint.
  • Mobile‑first design: simplified menu, sticky request‑demo button and responsive tables for pricing.
  • Enhanced search and filtering on product pages, enabling visitors to sort by instrument type, price or latest model.

Ongoing support relationship

Our partnership extends beyond launch. PrimeSites provides continuous support, including plugin and security updates, performance monitoring and quarterly strategy sessions. New products and news items are added by the PSS team with guidance from PrimeSites. This long‑term relationship ensures our site evolves with technology trends and user needs.
