January SPECIAL – M4 Mapping

For the month of January, we will be offering a special for geochemical mapping with the Bruker M4 Tornado. Submit a flat sample (e.g. cut drill core, hand sample or thin section) and have an area of 20 x 50 mm scanned at 50 µm spot size to produce 20 element maps including all major and minor elements applicable to the rock type. A brief report and raw data images will also be provided.


Micro X-ray Fluorescence spectroscopy (μXRF) is a rapid and non-destructive technique used to quickly acquire qualitative and quantitative geochemical data at high spatial resolution (i.e. μm scale). Elements ranging from sodium (Na) to uranium (U) can be measured with quantification limits down to parts per million. These qualitative element maps show the spatial variation and abundance of major, minor and trace elements and enable small-scale textural and compositional features to be identified, including those that are not visibly discernible.
